Dear users of the the KDE 3 live svn ebuilds!

With KDE4's beta 3 almost here and in the "kde" overlay, the promotion of the last active overlay developer tgurr to full Gentoo developership and the vastly superior ebuilds for KDE 3.5.7 (with some fixes from svn), I hereby announce the end of support for the KDE3 live svn ebuilds in the "kde-experimental" overlay. Especially since none of us use them anymore ourselves. :)

It's been fun and a pleasure to work with you on these ebuilds but they have outlived their usefulness and we're now fully concentrating on KDE4 with a much larger and more active team than ever before.

I'd like to thank Mario and Bonkie for their excellent work on the overlay and you, our users, for your patience over the last months when we hardly did anything about the KDE3 live ebuilds. Personally, I've more than enough to do with my regular Gentoo work. :)

What's going to happen now?

- Effective immediately, we won't do any support for the KDE3 live svn ebuilds anymore.
- On September, 30th 2007, I'm going to drop the kde-experimental overlay from layman.
- You should migrate to KDE 3.5.7 (no, KDE4 isn't usable yet) ASAP.
- Over the next few days, I'm going to change http://genkdesvn.sf.net to reflect these changes.
- On November, 1st 2007, I'm going to ask our Forums guys to lock this thread.
- If you're bold and daring or just plain suicidal, you might want to try the snapshot releases of KDE4 (live svn ebuilds will follow). See this thread for more information.

I'm going to put this post on the frontpage of http://genkdesvn.sf.net and mail it to the mailinglist to make sure about every user will see this.
